For a long time, Google maps was used by every smartphone user until Apple released Apple maps in 2012. Having used both, I find that Google maps is more convenient for me although Apple maps uses little data, Google maps allows me to download full sections of maps for offline use. It also has Google bicycle maps that is very useful for me because I use my bike most times. What’s more, it doesn’t matter whether I have an iPhone or an Android phone because I can still access Google maps on the Apple Store and on Google Play.

Google maps has street view which provides panoramic views of many streets around the world. It also lets you customize your routes by adding stops and avoiding tolls. Google is clearer when it comes to how traffic will impact your commute by showing the travel time in red to indicate there is heavy traffic, yellow for moderate traffic, and blue for little or no traffic. Apple, however, has a simple and clear screen but Google has slightly more icons, but most of them are gas stations and parking lots; places you’d likely stop at if you were driving. Similarly, if you choose walking mode, you’ll see more general locations.

You can use Google Maps or Apple maps if you are a visitor in a certain area these apps are very helpful in finding your way. There are 3D pictures of landmarks which gives you an idea of the location and what it looks like. With these two apps, you do not need to ask around for directions. You can also estimate how much time it will take you to get to your destination and decide on what mode of transport better suits the traffic conditions.
